Change is brewin'...

Oct 31, 2019

It's Halloween night, so you see what I did there? My post title is "brewin'" .... *insert crickets* Anywhoo...it has been a literal YEAR since i've blogged. What?! Ya, a kid'll do that to you. Throw you for loops you never saw coming. Who knew they were so needy? (I'm kidding, kind of ) I thought I'd give you a little life update, and my plans for this blog in the future, so here goes nothin'.

Kamden is almost 16 months old, and literally the cutest child alive. Okay, maybe i'm biased, but seriously, if you've seen her or met her you'd agree with me! She's the happiest kid, always. Except when she's hangry or tired, but even i'm incorrigible when i'm those things. She has been a salve to our wounded hearts, and everything we ever didn't know we needed. She's perfect.

I stepped away from my job, and have been at home with Kamden for a little over three months (it seems longer haha). It's been a sweet time with my girl, we are bonding and she's learning and growing so fast. I'm so thankful I have this fleeting time with her. However, mama misses adults, and expressing her creativity and getting dressed each day for the world. I'm trying to find a balance of what I want to do with myself, in addition to being Kamden's mama. I know that's the most important job, but I also know my creative cup won't get filled up, being home 24/7.

I've continued to do small floral jobs along the way. A wedding here, a party there, but nothing too crazy. Last spring, I had so many weddings in a row, I quickly realized, I didn't want to be a full-time florist. I enjoy the opportunity to help make brides' big day super special and I get my creativity out, but I don't think it's something I want to do full-time, each and every day.

What I do know, is I want to try house flipping. I truly think with Joe's construction know how and my eye for design, this could be a good thing. I'm currently searching for a flip house and am excited to get my first one started! I also know I love decor and interior design more than anything I've ever done. It's just been something I've always wanted to do, and gravitated towards my whole life. When I was a kid, I literally watched Christopher Lowell on HGTV with my mama instead of cartoons. I begged for subscriptions to design magazines, what kid does that? (apparently a few, I've found through meeting friends from instagram) But it's always been there, the desire, the little voice inside me saying "this is what you were meant to do" the friends and family that say, "you have such a knack for this" So my heart wants make the leap and go for it. I took the BIG leap this fall and quit my job to stay home, but I also knew it meant an opportunity to really go for my huge, scary, God sized dream of designing for others and flipping homes. It even feels scary to type it!

With that said, I wanted to dream up a really intentional name for any design or flipping business I might have (hopefully in the near future). So I first, started thinking about one of the places I love most; the garden. The garden reminds me of my daddy, it's where I find joy, peace and I love seeing the tangible fruits of labor, in the produce and blooms I yield. But, how to make that a business name? Then, I started thinking about what makes us love home so much, what brings us back to the place we love? Roots. So then, I started researching root sources, and wouldn't you know, that name of a primary root from where all the other roots originate is a taproot. I love it. And this is what I want my business to be known for. I want to name it Taproot Interiors 😻 and my tagline is "Home starts with roots". DO YOU LOVE IT AS MUCH AS ME?! I hope so :)

Here's my logo I drew, I love it!

In saying this, I want to announce I'll be changing my "presence" on all web platforms to match my new name. I hope to have my new blog up and running by the first of the year, I'll re-name my Instagram & Pinterest, which I know can be tricky switching lanes when you're already sort-of established, but I want to be universal across all platforms. I hope you'll join me in this journey! I'm excited to get those creative juices flowing again, and chase some dreams I've been wanting to go after for a lifetime. Don't worry, I'm still getting ready to decorate for Christmas way early like I always do, and I'll be sure to share it with you all! It will just have to be during nap-times and after bedtime for Kam. She requires ALLLLLL my attention during waking hours haha :)

Also, I've been keeping a pretty big secret for a while, and I can't wait to share it, soon. I'm such a tease! But I want you to come back! 😉 If you took a moment to read my life update, I so appreciate it!
